Illegal possession, storage, and dumping of forest produce — Sawn Teak (Tectona grandis) of special class, estimated at approximately 21.672 cubic meters, found lying in and around J. Munnomjang Village near the Indo–Myanmar Border without any valid transit permit or authorization from the Forest Department.

The act constitutes a contravention of the provisions of Section 41(2)(b) of the Indian Forest Act, 1927, as amended by the Indian Forest (Manipur Amendment) Act, 2018, and Rule 37(3) of the Manipur Forest Rules, 2021, which prohibit the unlawful movement, storage, or possession of forest produce without valid authority.

Based on a specific input regarding the illegal dumping of timbers in and around the Indo–Myanmar border area, a team of staff from the Moreh Range conducted a patrolling operation along the border area on 31st October, 2025. During the course of the patrol, the team detected several logs of sawn timbers lying unattended near J. Munnomjang Village.
Upon inspection, the sawn timbers were identified as Teak (Tectona grandis) of special class, with an estimated total volume of approximately 21.672 cubic meters. The detailed description of the seized timbers is enclosed in the Seizure Memo attached herewith.
Subsequently, the said swan timbers were formally seized and taken into custody under the charge of the Range Forest Officer, Moreh Range, Tengnoupal Forest Division.
In connection with the said seizure, a Preliminary Offence Report (POR) was registered against unknown offenders under Section 41(2)(b) of the Indian Forest Act, 1927, as amended by the Indian Forest (Manipur Amendment) Act, 2018, and Rule 37(3) of the Manipur Forest Rules, 2021.
